Marc Mentry is a senior marketing executive with 20 years of experience in brand management, advertising strategy and development, sports marketing, digital marketing and new product development. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing of Advertising, Media and Sports Marketing at Capital One. In this role, Mentry is responsible for all global advertising, media planning, sponsorships and creative development at Capital One. This includes leading the award-winning “What’s in Your Wallet” national advertising campaign, all media planning and buying, Capital One’s national sponsorships strategy, digital and social branding and managing an in-house creative shop.

As a 14 year veteran at Capital One, Mentry has been a part of the brand leadership team that oversaw the company’s rise from an unknown brand to one of the top brands in financial services. His roles at Capital One have included Vice President of Brand Marketing for the U.S. Card Division, Director of Brand Integration and Creative, Director of Direct Marketing Management and Group Brand Manager of Emerging Products.

Before joining Capital One, Mentry spent his early career in strategic planning and account management at advertising and PR agencies in Washington, D.C ., and NYC metro areas. He worked for such clients as Nabisco, AT&T, Roche Vitamins and Pharmaceuticals, Schering-Plough, MCI, Network Solutions, AOL, American Bar Association. 

Mentry is an alumnus of George Mason University where he received his degree in communications. He lives in Glen Allen, VA with his wife of 15 years, Carla, and his 8 1/2 year old daughter, Aidyn. Carla owns 2 cooking businesses, one teaching kids cooking parties, PB&J Gourmet and the other is a personal chef business called, The Dinner Belle. Mentry is on the board of the Henrico Education Foundation and speaks regularly as part of Capital One’s Executive Speakers Bureau at various forums including The Direct Marketing Association Conference, VCU BrandCenter, University of Richmond and many local non profit meetings.

The Johnson & Strachan Distinguished Speaker Series is a community-based academic initiative that enriches the educational experience of the school’s students, faculty, and alumni while building and strengthening relationships with the region’s business community.

Focusing on finance issues, the Distinguished Speaker Series brings a diverse group of corporate leaders, government officials, and renowned academicians to George Mason’s Fairfax campus. These exceptional speakers discuss the strategic and operational issues critical to the nation’s ability to sustain and enhance its competitive edge in a global economy. Their ideas and solutions will benefit students, faculty, and the community by offering insight and fostering provocative discussion.
